A blog like this only scratches the surface of a fascinating topic like Chief Francis O’Neill. That is why I have written a novel of biographical fiction on his life. There is plenty of drama to the story: shipwreck on a remote Pacific Island, struggle through working conditions similar to Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle, personal tragedy (he and his wife Anna lost 6 of 10 children) and political intrigue as the first Chicago chief of police to be elected twice in a row. There is much music and humour as well.
The book will be published in the summer of 2020. Watch this space for further details.
For a published excerpt, please see the Celtic Arts Junction Arts Review Autumn (Samhain) 2018 edition, as well as the following blog post.
I look forward to making Chief O’Neill’s full story widely available.
