Blood Runs Green by Gillian O’Brien

Doctor Gillian O’Brien is the author of Blood Runs Green, an excellent history of the murder of an Irish American doctor by Clan Na Gael rebels in Chicago in 1889.

An important chapter in Irish American life in Chicago in the late nineteenth century. Francis O’Neill, as a policeman at the time, would have followed this case with great interest. It is not known what is opinion of it was.

O’Brien’s recent blog post, The Perils of Jury Service in Chicago, about former president Barrack Obama’s dismissal from jury duty brings the remarkable details of this case back to light.
